Mindaugas Balčiūnas appointed to a position of LSU Vice-rector for Development and Sport

  Dr. Mindaugas Balčiūnas has been appointed to a position of Vice–Rector for Development and Sport by a decision of the Senate of Lithuanian Sports University (LSU). Since 2012, he held office of the Chancellor of LSU. The new Vice–Rector for Development and Sport is going to focus on cooperation with foreign partners, National Olympic Committee of Lithuania, the Department of Physical Education and Sports, sports federations and other social partners. “I am glad that LSU community appreciates and supports my ideas. The University is in constant development, we are making changes in administrative and academic fields and searching for the most optimal working methods. Sport science gives the best answers on how to solve health-related issues in many countries. Therefore, we actively offer solutions to the general public of Lithuania and share our experience with the partners in the Baltic region”, said M. Balčiūnas.

  LSU Vice-Rector is going to pay special attention to physical activity and health promotion. M. Balčiūnas is planning to continue renovation of the University sports infrastructure and communicate with LSU Alumni, tens of Olympic, world and European champions among them. According to the new Vice-Rector, LSU is a unique university not only in Lithuania, but also in the Baltic region and Scandinavia, which enables to disseminate knowledge. “Higher education in Lithuania is going through changes. One of the most important acknowledgements of our activity is the impact on the region. We have to actively implement Government and the European Commission resolutions related to public health. We will remain active partners of Kaunas. We will share experience on how to exploit S. Darius and S. Girėnas sport centre and implement sport and health promotion programmes”, said M. Balčiūnas.

  LSU Vice–Rector for Development and Sport is responsible for infrastructure development, student sporting activities and leisure, strategy and project implementation and the development of the activities of the National Wellness institute.
